I guess, "Grandpa knows how". Thanks for sharing your success. Was it a two day trip or one long day?

We left Tuesday, Oct 13 around 11:00 p.m. after loading live bait for over and hour. We arrived after one long ass boat ride on the fishing grounds around 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. We fished until about 7:30 p.m. and headed back to port on another long boat ride arriving back in port around 4:00 a.m. on Oct 15. We ate Ribeye Steak Dinners while crew laid out fish for photo's/weighing/counting and cleaning on the trip back. The boat had bunks for 46 people, but we limited the trip to 25 to avoid over crowded fishing condition that would lead to more lost fish. I started with 10 hooks in my pocket, I had one left (in my pocket) when we quit, but had at least 10 fish that pulled the hook in addition to break offs due to crossed lines, etc. I fished constantly from beginning to end with a forced break around 2 pm as I had eaten nothing since 6 a.m. I inhaled a couple pieced of bread with cheese and salami, a Sprite, a beer and 6 bottles of water and was back fishing in 30 minutes. There was suggestion of reducing to 20 people, but with the number of fish we caught, I really don't mind the larger number as we had lots of fish and I think more people made for a better trip.
I purchased a new Penn 2 speed reel (Penn Fathom 25NLD2) at a Sporting Goods Show in Long Beach, Ca this Spring. Due to Covid this was the first time I used it. I swear by the 2 speed technology. It was fantastic to have this reel. I was able to bring in fish while others were killing themselves to retrieve a foot of line. Definitely worth every penny of the $249 it cost to buy.

Those two speed reels are great, I purchased one three years ago and when the captain tells us to get out bits in quick mine is out while others are reeling like crazy and when you have something on kick it into low gear and just reel!!

Looks like a great trip Grandpa, and perfect conditions. You guys cleaned up! Thanks for the pictures.
It's great that the 2speed technology has finally worked down to affordable reels. When the 2speed Internationals first came out I had the chance to try one on 50lb school Bluefin. It was a 30W, and dropping it into low gear made it like reeling in a 15lb Bluefish, AWESOME!
