When the lake is drained then filled back up and not planted you can be pretty sure it is void of any fish

Welcome Dman!
Your story about sliding down the bank reminds me of one I’ld like to tell.
I had just moved from KCK to Lawrence and decided to join some civic clubs, so I joined the Optimist Club. Well, every year, the club went on a canoe float trip to different rivers in either southern Missouri or Arkansas. I don’t recall which river we went to this particular year. It was either the Current, Buffalo, or White, but the place we were putting in had a long, steep, dirt (mud) bank we had to slide our canoes down to the river. One of the couples on the trip was a very large couple. He was a building contractor, like myself, but weighed about 300 lbs. and his wife was not much smaller than he. This guy was probably the jolliest guy I have ever met. He laughed about everything ! Almost to the point of being annoying. Anyway... they had just started down this muddy bank, which was about 60-80 feet from the top to the water, when she lost her footing and slid all the way to the bottom, feet first(mostly). Once he found out she was ok, he started cackling as he slid their canoe and himself on down to join her. There was not enough room at the bottom of the bank to congregate, so each canoe was launching as soon as they reached the bottom. So all the rest of the canoeists at the top of the bank got to watch (and laugh) as each couple went down the bank and got in their canoes. Well, this “heavy” couple had just got in their canoe, when they realized it was headed upstream, so they were attempting to turn it around. All the while, Don was laughing constantly, while his wife was still pissed about the comedy “slide show”she had put on for all the 20-30 people at the top of the bank. Well..... all of a sudden, before they even got turned clear around, and were still in view of us all, their canoe flipped and sent both of them into the river!!

Don never stopped laughing/cackling the whole time, but by then you could barely hear him over everybody else laughing so hard.
It was one of the most memorable float trips I ever went on. Probably second only to the time when Myrna and I, and my brother and SIL had to be rescued by the National Park Service during a flash flood on the Current River.
A story for another day....

Good story Dman. Had to laugh at you because I've been there. Nice looking water. Thanks for Sharing the pictures

Been there! Done that too! But at my age I gotta roll over on my hands & knees and crawl to where I can stand up. I guess that would be good for a short movie.

I actually rolled over on my belly and had to stab my fishing pole in the mud like an ice pick while still sliding. That's how I stopped . But my feet were in the water up to my ankles. I was on my knees and made it to a stick and worked my way out of the muddy area to some dead raspberry bushes ( ya.. they stuck and scratched me pretty good) That took about 3 min. to crawl 6ft. When I got to my feet I had a lot of thick red mud hanging of my arms and clothes. Funny tho, I looked at the water considering washing up and snapped outta that thought quickly. It was crazy funny.

It's good entertainment when you are front row for the "muddy hill with consequences at the bottom" show hehe
