Fishing bucket list.
I’m looking for suggestions to help put together a fishing bucket list for the next two years. I’ll be travelling between NZ, AU, USA and Europe and it’s going to be the perfect time to broaden the fishing horizons and enjoy the sport.
What would be the must fish spots, species and experiences around these areas. I know it’s a big ask considering I’m not entirely sure what part of the states I’ll be in other then Alaska and Montana but I’ll happily take advice nation wide. The plan will be to jump on charters and trips for most of the stuff although AU and NZ I’ll be taking my own gear and self guiding.
So what should I put on the list?

Halibut in Alaska, and you know it's hard to beat Florida fishing.

Halibut is the first one to cross off I’m hoping. Ideally I’ll get some fly fishing tuition before heading over so I can give the salmon fishing the respect it deserves while I’m there.

NZ you gotta go for big fish off the rocks. Northland, the Coromandel, or East Cape. Kingfish over summer, Snapper over winter.

South America is going to be out of reach for the foreseeable but I’m hoping one day to make it that way.

Sightcasting red drum aka redfish from a kayak should be on everyone’s fishing bucket list. Louisiana would be my first suggestion but you can find redfish all over the gulf coast and parts of the east coast.

If your gonna be on the east coast/ New England side of the states. People get pretty jazzed up for the stripped bass migration. Nothing like bring in a 40 lbs bass.

Do it now before they are all gone.
Monster bluefishing is a better fight. 20lb blue fights like a freight train.

Alaska is incredible. While many talk up halibut fishing, it's probably my least favorite fishing to do there. Have you ever pulled a 100 lb flat rock up from 300 feet? Yeah, not a lot of fun. Just my opinion. I love salmon fishing, particularly in rivers (e.g. drift boat fishing). And Ling cod, while ugly as hell, are incredibly delicious. I've been 3 times, but my favorite experience was Raspberry Island. Check out raspberryisland.com if you're interested.

Last time I was there halibut fishing was described to me as “like pulling a bit carpet off the bottom” but I can’t pass up the chance to try for the big doormats all the same. I’m hoping to do the salmon with a bit more style, had a go at spin fishing the Russian river but it wasn’t very effective.

You should definitely have the experience of halibut fishing. It's certainly fun, just not my favorite to do there. You might want to look into times of year and target salmon species you're interested in. They each have different runs that have fairly predictable windows.

The spring walleye run on the Maumee River in Ohio. It is actually going to start here in the next couple of weeks.

Destin, FL for big offshore fish! Yellowfin tuna run in the Gulf of Mexico to cobia along the beach`s! Also run in Costa Rica too along the Yucatan Peninsula! All the big game fish available there! Tuna and wahoo is some fine eating for catch rewards!
