Well someone on the site swore you stop the pain of the catfish stab by peeing on it. I will tell you personal experience thats Bull Hocky! Don't work! I rubbed my finger on the fishes belly Didn't work either! I washed with Hydrogen Peroxide. Probably cleaned the pee and the belly slime off but I fished thru the pain till I got home. I used hot water and instantly it stopped the pain. I had to hold it in hot running water twice before it didn't hurt anymore. And the little one that got me I threw back. Oh and my girlfriend wouldn't lick it either. Don't know why she didn't want anything to do with it. And the bacon caught all 5 of the cats. 3 only came home with me.

Sorry Jeremy as much as I wanted that sucker to die a strange and terrible death I didn't. Maybe the next time I catch him I'll smoke him real slow. 🐌😝😝😝

Actually they are bone fins and all 3 of those fins have back pointing barbs down the whole length so if they go in you're in trouble. I'll take a picture of one in the morning.

Yes. All catfish have 3 one up on dorsal and one on each side near gills. They have bacteria in the tubular sharp bone that make it hurt and causes infection.

I am just goofing off when I ask if he cut them off because someone a week or so ago asked if they should cut them off before releasing them. They were talking about their whisker type sensors on their face / mouth area. The whole site erupted and said NO WAY if you should cut their whiskers off and release them. They use them for feeding.

And that is why I use 2 different Vise grips, one regular to grip the lip and one long nose Vise grip to get the hook out.

I don't remember freshwater catfish ever hurting so much or bleeding so long when getting stabbed.

Had the same problem with the ones we use to catch out of the Gulf of Mexico. Even the little bitty ones would get you good and they would hurt forever.

Just funnin, Feeding off a Jeremy like that wont get me in trouble, slipped pulling the skin off a catfish and came down on a fin from another cat, went in up the side of my finger full depth, hurt swelled then healed. But side of finger numb for months glad to see someone eating hardheads had folks in port boliver, TX tell me they were trash fish and no good to eat, I enjoyed em,
Seems if a fish is plentiful and easy to catch it must not be any good.

It’s like Alaska used to throw Cabezon away and say they are junk. Now there is a shortage and sought after

I always carry small bottle of pine sol in my tackle bag. The pine sol will kill the bacteria and clean the wound. It works for me.
