That’s exhilarating.

I bet that was a blast!! I caught a 6lb cat on a popper once!

It certainly got my heart pumping! Sucker took off like a train for deep water, and I was on a dock so I was worried it would go in between the pilings. Luckily I was using a heavy power rod with 20lb CXX so I could horse it a little bit and wear it out quicker than I could have with lighter gear.

Ironically I've never caught a catfish on "catfish" bait... I've caught a bunch on spoons and rapala's I even had a big one rise for a topwater frog while flyfishing for bass once! But, never gotten any luck with the stinky bottom baits..

Goes to show you that they prefer live bait!

Try cut up fish or live whole fish, those “stink baits” never work.

The stink baits work, they just only seem to work well on little catfish in warm water. Otherwise cut bait will beat it every time. The main reason I quit using it wasn't because it was ineffective though, I got some on my pickup seat and had to trade it in to get rid of the smell. I don't want to fish with something that smells like landfill juice!

A good catfish guide told me hands down the best catfish bait is shad. Fresh, never frozen. When cutting, Match to hatch.

If in a pond with no shads like a lot of neighborhood lakes, bluegill is an acceptable substitute.

Nice Blue, just proves once again if the fish are bitting they are bitting.
Me either. Every catfish that I've caught, has been on rat-l-traps.
caught one on a beetle spin once.
