Saturday my girlfriend and I slipped out of the house at 7:30 am leaving my wife sawing logs. We knew the fishing wasn't gonna be great as happens on occasion this was a two tide day. Saltwater fish primarily feed on moving tides. From someone on the Stage I've started with my new favorite bait for catfish Bacon! I put 1/2 slice of bacon on my baitcaster and 1/2 on my spinning rod. Directly my baitcaster bent over. Grabbed it up and started cranking and several times the drag would sing. Finally landed the largest Gafftop sail cat I've caught this year. So that was my supper this evening and no room for dessert. Without pictures it's just a fish tale so here's the 20" sail cat before and after.

Is that what you make the smoked ones out of? Other than yours I've never eaten a salt water cat. Sure looks good.

Sorry I can't fry one and send it to you. I have figured out how to send saltwater hardhead cats tho.

No Spiritof27 I usually fry the sail cats but once in a while a smaller sail cat goes in the smoker. The meat of the sail cat is snow white and mild tasting where as the hardheads the meat especially larger ones is off white. (I call it yellowish) and a little stronger tasting. I can still fry a hardhead that is as good as any you can get

Absolutely raw. And when those cats get the bacon drug out I'll bunch the strung out part and stick the hook back threw it. When the bite is on I can catch 3 cats on that 1/2 slice of bacon. I only buy thick cut smoked bacon cause that's what I eat. Even after 1 fish you can stll smell the bacon smell.

Someone on the Fishing Stage suggested I try bacon and I believe they were freshwater cat fishing. Maybe they'll see the post and jump in.
