Limited current resources and space. Gonna be only one. I used to fish upstate NY with a Scanoe elec motor fishfinder/liar, seats did pretty good on some bigger waters but I was less yearly than now. Had a Coleman crawdad Jonboat loved it could fish two guys standing bass fishing smaller waters in TX and pick it up myself. No waves didn’t like big water. Never been in a kayak but impressed with guys catching halibut and marlin in them but for what they cost, even used, around here I bought a 19ft aluminum boat before. Guess I should say fishing kayak there are small cheap kayaks not like the “fishing” ones. Now in NW, big rivers and lots of small ponds

Kinda in the title canoe kayak or car topper boat. I am gonna get one but not sure which especially not sure about the $2500 some of the used fishing kayaks run when some of my better big boats cost that a time ago. but never been in one to know its worth it. Course I bought 11 acres with a small house and big barn by Kyle, TX a time ago for $32000. Those times are gone. I understood where I was going with it dang it. It’s late spent all day with VA Medical, wear anyone out

You are describing the painful effects of inflation. Where exactly are you planning to fish and for what? I think that would narrow it down somewhat. Some of our Texas lakes are quit large and we do have wind. Are you considering having your craft with a motor? Now all three of these you've mentioned would do the trick.

Might be wise to do a demo from a reputable dealer with the top two, and then decide. I believe from my present knowledge would lean toward a motorized kayak, but I am not that would be best for you. Just Sayin....RJS

So your around the NW and Columbia River? Most big water up here calls for a boat that will safely take some serious wind and wave height unless your just doing to fish lakes. Even some of those can get sketchy quick. Up here I’d steer clear of jonboats and anything with no deep V bow or low sides and stern. I’ve had a canoe and a fulboat but limited myself to calmer waters and my 18’ Valco heads for the launch when the wind comes up on the Columbia or Snake.

I always wanted to make a cedar strip canoe but I saw a book on cedar kayaks and the way the wood comes together on top is great looking. It would have to wait till spring looking at land/house in Wyoming. But yeah I could build that.

I built 3 stitch and glue boats 2 from payson, and 1 from spira, I kinda got the hots for a rowboat mostly cause I like the shape of this, http://www.spirainternational.com/hp_minu.php I got a little 6 hp kicker on my big boat i can take off and use on something like this too. V bottom would be nice up here in the chop. http://www.spirainternational.com/hp_bahi.php

For ease of transport and storage, you might consider an inflatable from Sea Eagle. The variety of models should have at least one that would meet your needs.
One-man or two or three ? I have the 285fpb (9', motor capable, packs in a large plastic bin. I also have a 14' 440 Foldcat, which is no longer available, but they still make the 12' 375FC. Super stable, store in a closet ! The fishing skiff model looks like a great choice, as well. All the models are not particularly cheap, but pretty bulletproof for an inflatable. My 440 & one of my 285's are 2009 models, no patches necessary, thus far. Check Craigslist for a used one before popping for a new one, got my second 285fpb for $300, instead of new for $900+.... seems like folks get all excited to embrace a sport and then lose interest or life-circumstances change. The used 285 was only used four times in freshwater over 11 years, it looks nearly new !
Since you are in Oregon, you are welcome to come down "the 5" to Medford and check mine out anytime with a "test run", river or lake either, just shoot me a PM.
Good luck on your search !

My brother’s in Medford owns a poop business, septic/portapotties does pretty good. Always been a little nervous about inflatables. Even after doing rescues in USCG zodiacs. Ive managed to put holes in aluminum canoes , submerged t-post, course we all have our thing you cant get my bro in-law into a wood boat, transom came off one in this Columbia river almost killed him. I think I need to try the only one I haven’t been in a proper fishing kayak, guess some you can stand up and fish on now. Not sure if a dealer has. Like cars and has some for test drives but that’s what it’ll take before I shell out a few thousand for a small plastic boat. Still gonna build one canoe or otherwise one day. Been in my head since grandpas mech illustrated had boat plans almost every issue. I’m on the WA side of the river but I have fished a big lake by Medford with my brother for kokes

Ok you got me looking at sea eagle website their 16fter with a 6hp seemed pretty cool, great reviews but one, guy put hole in it with one those catfish “stingers” everyone’s been talking about on here. Your 285 seems prettty cool for smaller water/accessibility guy standing in it fly fishing not bad for a 9ft inflatable

I like my 285fpb quite a bit. Have had it on Lost Creek Reservoir and Applegate, as well as the Rogue River up to Class lll water, just fine.... just have yet to get that steelhead while in it yet, dammit !

Since you are in Portland, check out "Next Adventure" for kayaks. While I haven't been there, I have seen the shop on "Outdoor GPS"( greatest fishing/hunting show ever, imo, on NBCSportsNW ) and watched the interviews with the owners. They seem to know their products and apparently have some form of "try it out" venue, not sure of details....call/visit them.

I suppose a catfish spine COULD puncture the Sea Eagle's skin, but it would take some odd effort/chance. Can't say that I do much catfishing, here in Oregon, only by chance do I catch any...... except one pristine secret spot where the black bullheads eat freshwater shrimp and crawdads, get to be 12"-15" and because of that diet.....cut as red as a Kokanee or tasty trout.....there, I target them, after getting my 5 trout limit.
