I usually miss opening night of lobster season in San Diego. This time I did something different.
My hooping partner and I take his 14 boat out. Much smaller and easier to maneuver the bay than my 25 or 35 sport fishers. Armed with 10 hoops (max allowed per DF&W). We drop them down to the bottom and wait anywhere between 10 minutes and 1 hour.
Usually this gives us time to keep up on each others families , politics, a fine cigar and usually an adult beverage.
This time Mark wasn't able to make it so I improvised. I had slight success in the past just dropping a net down at the marina where I keep my boats. The wife was down so we spent the night , Bar b Q some fresh bluefin loin for dinner. As soon as it was dark I dropped my nets (2) down and relaxed. I pulled them every hour and had nothing . I was tired so I went to bed. At about 2 am I woke up and pulled 1 more time to find these guys.
So if your buddy is NOT there how do you get to enjoy the fine cigars? The rest is kind of interesting but good cigars......that is very important.
