Catfish stingers

I always catch catfish where live.
I whant to cut off the posionous stingers.
If I cut off the stingers and throw the fish back as I currently do is thie okay?
We catch catfish where we fish so that is why I ask this question.
I would appreciate an answer to this problem.

Catfish don’t have Poisonous or otherwise stingers.makes them hard to cut off so you have a problem

I'm not sure if they're poisonous or just very toxic but I've been stabbed by blue cats and ended up with a strong burning sensation for a couple of days. Swelling and very red as well🤷🏼♂️

Sounds like someone needs to learn how to hold a catfish lol. I hold from the Belly Up Against the fins thumb under the left side middle finger under the right side with index finger over the right side fin

If a catfish is too big put on a pair of gloves grab it by the mouth and under the belly near the Tail

Friend, you may be confusing the catfish whiskers with their fins. The whiskers aren't poisinous nor dangerous. the fins are. If you don't handle them properly, those fins, top, sides, all can puncture your hand if not careful. Its there for their protection. Just Sayin...RJS

If your not going to keep the fish why hurt it ???? If your Gunna do that keep em there Gunna die anyway. Someone will eat em. Like said above it's the three fins that have Barb's. I cut em off a oon as I catch em. I've been cut by them it's beyond painful. BUT it goes away fast only if you pee in the cut or puncture right away. If your to manly to pee on the cut, then you will be in pain for days. No joke.

The fins can be sharp especially on younger/smaller catfish they contain no poison in them as a stinger would, yeah they hurt and can get infected but from bacteria on the skin of the cat kinda like a song “hey-leave them fish alone”

Lol. It was a 14 pound blue cat and I was up to my waist in the river trying to help my buddy get it untangled out of the rocks. It would have taken three hands the size of mine to grab it like that. The head was 5 inches wide. The fish was 37 inches long. Plus it got me in the leg.
