I would like to learn about lures. My knowledge of lures is 0.
1. Don't know what is what
2. How do you retrieve the lures?
This is why I haven't caught anything with lures.
I would like to fish with a experienced fisherman to teach me.
Meanwhile I'll just keep on using live bait.
The internet is a great source for instruction .
Get a lure that interests you, do a little research and spend sone time on the water.
Won’t be long and you will get proficient
TCroft: One thing you can do is become a Utube finatic. Watch the different segments on type of lure how to fish it. It will go a long way toward your education. This is short of actually going out with a guide or an experienced fisherman who can teach you what to do in different situations and different fish. Just Sayin...RJS
TC Like what as peviously said Utube. Or contact a local guide and book a educational outing with him. Then just practice what you've learned and you'll be up and catching in no time.
What are you fishing for? And where? Different types of lures are better for different types of fish. And different types of water. The first lure I ever fished with was a Jitterbug for bass early in the morning around a bunch of lily pads. Worked 60 or so years ago and it still works today.
For learning lures I use one until I get a bite. I started out with a fluttering spoon & cricket hopper for bass and moved on up. In the beginning I could not figure out how to get a bite on crankbaits lol. Learn the bite & its proper presentation. Develop a technique of your won. A lot of anglers told me they do not like the Ned Rig because they lose too many fish. Yet every company now has gotten into the Ned Rig business. Spend time on the water to find your confidence bait. It will come gradually. As a start use a rooster tail. Multi- purpose lure.

Just takes time- try a different approach if you don’t catch after a few minutes. Remember what didn’t work and change it up a little. Keep after it and it will come together for you. Don’t give up.
