Hi guys, Capt. Jim Here. I recently joined this forum and have been enjoying it. Besides for being a retired 6-pack skipper I am also State board President of the California Striped Bass Assoc. (CSBA) We have recently completely revamped our website. Striper-CSBA.org. Check it out! We have links to F&G, weather links, tides, fish reports, and a lot more. One of our links is from a marina that is right next to the Antioch Bridge. They have a 24 hr weather cam that shows the river in front of the marina. You can see current conditions. I always look at the top of the trees in the shot to tell wind as the picture is a bit grainy. There are links to all five of our chapters. Lots of pictures. Check it out and see what we are all about.

Hi Saw!

I do get out but very rarely. When I retired I decided to get involved in the protection of our delta and water. I am now on 4 different citizens advisory committees. Delta tunnel project, Franks Tract Improvement, Delta Protection Commission and a panel trying to get action out of F&G to protect stripers. Does not leave a lot of time for fishing. I am planning/hoping to get out on the Sacramento river for salmon either tomorrow or Thursday. I see you get out a lot. Napa river is one area I have never fished. I have always operated out of the bay or delta, and Napa river is sort of a long run from either direction.

captjim,
First welcome and thx for all CSBA has done and is doing. Some time ago I had the pleasure to be invited many times to come and speak at the Delta Chapter meetings. Always a fun and informative meeting for me and I hope the members enjoyed the seminars.
If I can figure out how to post some pictures I will. Also I can say that the Lauritzen's Yacht Harbor camera is great, as is my friend Chris. BTW last weekend he officiated my daughters wedding. He is a true Gentleman and great friend of the family.
I want to encourage anyone here on this site to take a look at the CSBA site and support them. I know first hand they work so hard for the Striped Bass health and future, also the chapters do great community work.
Again Jim welcome and Gluck,
Scorchy

Hi Scorchy,

Thanks for the kind words. I do remember you at a meeting. I am a member of the West Delta Chapter and was chapter President for 6 years. CSBA does fight hard for stripers. It feels like we fight F&G as much as water dept. giant ag. We also recently lost the CSBA'a founder Jay Sorenson. Jay was a wealth of fishing information and was dedicated to the delta. He will be missed.

I had not heard about Jay, old friend and always fought for what was right

Thanks again for joining. I look forward to your input here.

I am calling Saw1 this afternoon to check on him and his wife. But also pick his brain on posting pictures.

Stay tuned I might have some pics in the next few days lol

Loosing Jay was a blow. He and one other fellow (Barry Canavero)were mentors to me. When I first joined CSBA they went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They both taught me a lot...especially hook and release! Talking about the past, next year will be 40 years for me being a member, and now I am President. How did I get this old???

Welcome to the Fishing Stage Forum, Capt. Jim! Thanks for the information you provided :-)
I do a lot of kayak fishing but am fairly new to the area (moved here in mid 2017) I do a lot of research for locations I plan on fishing since I am new. Wind is a big indicator if I will be fishing a certain area or not :-)
Much appreciated!!!

Capt Jim, I want to thank you for taking your time to be on those Boards you mentioned and the work you do. I lived in Lafayette/Walnut Creek area for 11 years. My favorite place to fish is the Delta system. From Martinez to Rio Vista. I have had many great days fishing out there. The Delta and surrounding fishing places need people like you ! Thank you !

Welcome on board Capt. Jim.

I often visit my son in Berkeley during the Summer. Do you know of a good striped bass fishing charter out of Berkeley Marina or San Francisco Fishermen's wharf? It's been 30 years since I last went and would love to try it again on my next trip. I used to go out on the Bass Tub. Capt. Cliff(RIP) was renowned for limiting out on his charters. Thanks.

There are quite a few party boats that do "potluck" style fishing through the summer. That would be targeting halibut and striped bass with live bait. If you are primarily looking to fish for striped bass, talk with the skipper about which tides would be best for stripers. Generally bigger tides for stripers smaller for halibut. You could try Cal Dawn out of Berkeley, or the Happy Hooker also Berkeley. The bass Tub still operates with Cliff's son Erik at the helm. If you wanted a 6-pack boat the Argus and Soleman both work out of fisherman's wharf. If you choose one of these boats tell em Jim Cox sent you, and we will see if they remember me after 8 years!!

Years ago I hooked my bg limit of Strippers off of San Quentin Flats. What fighters ! Sad to say that We moved. Arizona has fresh water that holds Strippers.

I'm curious if if Stripper Fisher men can point me in the right direction.?
