Man sucker put up a fight
The only interest we ever had for carp if we caught one, was to use it for cut bait for other fish. We never took one home. Just Sayin...RJS

I never let them in my boat.

We used to hand fish for them and cats in a nearby creek. They are quite good smoked. Used to pull flatheads up to 40 lbs, too.

Ya I just love the fight haha
They are a blast to catch and really put up a good fight. I’ve never brought one home but have eaten them smoked, pretty tasty too!
Save and dry flattened, the scales for guitar picks..... the only redeeming value of a carp, after the fight to land it, imo !
And, no....I would NOT, in good conscience, waste a good cedar board in an attempt to cook, lol !

How well do the carp scales hold up as picks? Do they come in “thin, medium, and heavy” as the fish gets bigger? Are they guitar size or mandolin? I’ve only caught one carp in my life, and that was by accident fishing with a night crawler and bobber. Didn’t notice the size of the scales. Here it is.
FOF it would taste like crap if you smoked it with cedar but would taste great smoked with fruit wood!

Oz... still smoky skies, depending on wind direction. Still have a 150,000 acre one on the Or-Ca border and several other "smaller" (10k-30k acres) ones burning in our area, & only the one that burned Talent/Phoenix cities(3200 acres) is considered 100% contained.
Randy... definitely a "Fender soft", actually more of a joke than a practicality...
Rutinbuck..... wasn't gonna use the cedar for "smoking".....was referring to the advice (joke) to "throw away the fish, & eat the board"
Yuck, can't even fathom cedar as ingredient for smoking taste, too pungent.... don't even care to eat salmon prepared that "plank" way.... but the pleasant smell at a campfire, the best, imo.
