The best trout fishing I have ever had is in Lake Taneycomo down in Branson, MO., just West of where Itff is fishing. You could not keep track of your "trout count".
The brown hit on a grey scud most of the others hit on a fly i made. I would show you a pic of it but a fish took it. I'm going to make some this afternoon.

I hate when that happens.
I've never tried a scud. How do you fish that in a lake?

If you’re spin fishing use one of those clear plastic bobbers either weighted ones or the type that can hold water for weight, to cast. Leader should not be much longer than your rod length for ease of casting. Or can try slow trolling or drift if ur in a boat.

I have never fished a scud in anything but a stream.

All Nice, The Last ONE is a real Beauty!
Nice fish, teach... from the area where I learned fly fishing from my Great Uncle Gene, 55-56 yrs ago. Having seen what Branson and Noel have become in the last 40 years, doubt if I ever make a return visit....I have my memories, don't need them to be degraded by the commercialized, tacky, & crowded development that area has become.... kinda sad, imo.
Flyguy....check out famed BC Canadian Brian Chen's videos and fishing show appearances on the subject of scuds and lake fishing. I, too, had never thrown scuds or nymphs, except in streams or rivers. Gave me a whole new perspective and approach to fly fishing a lake, rather than relying on rising fish and an obvious hatch to match.
I still think his "$store water balloon" INDICATOR trick is one of the best ideas ever..... Inflate by sucking in to create a small marble-size, tie off, then an overhand knot onto leader. Now you have an unobtrusive, adjustable, aerodynamic, "baby bobber" that doesn't interfere with casting technique, whatsoever.
So easy to see and effective at indicating the slightest take.
A bag of 100+ for a dollar ! ...... conventional fly-fishing gear has no equal, in bargains that actually work as advertised..... absolutely perfect for "strippin' scuds", on a lake.
And about that "fishin' in the RAIN thing".......dear Lord..... please let us have that experience again !!!
We, here in Oregon, would LOVE to be fishing in the rain.... the snow..... something besides smoke !
100 DAYS WITHOUT MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION !! Slight chance coming Thursday (that would be Day 101 !), but that's what they said last week, and going back to the 90's by Sunday.....we are DRY, DRY, DRY !
Yes its a lake but its more like a river the water level goes up and down depending how much water they let out of the dam. I'm going to show some pics up the same place but different water levels.
Ah! The trout! I’m a big fan. Nice job teach. I cut my teeth trout fishing on Taneycomo. Haven’t been in a while. Now it’s mostly Montauk.
