Nutria. Brought in from South America to start a fur industry in South Louisiana, I believe by the McIlhenny family. The same people that make Tabasco sauce. They multiplied so fast he let them go in the wild. They are strictly vegetarian animals and actually are pretty tasty. I’ve eaten them and will again if the opportunity arises. You just have to get past the overgrown rat appearance. After all people eat liver, heart, tongue, thyroid, chitlin’s and just about anything else. Thermals.

Yeah some eat their own child’s Placenta. That’s not Fish...Deer....or Elk. Just strange if you ask me

It was another not so well thought out plan as with pretty much the introduction of all non native species. Bounties help but it’s too far gone now. They actually do taste pretty good. Lean meat and plenty of it.

Do you marinate them in Chlorine Bleach before you salt the thing to BBQ it?

It’s better in a crockpot with potatoes and onions and carrots just like a beef stew. You can also bake it then pan fry in seasoned flour.

Good morning to all,
My cousins in La. call nutria coypus. Coypu have hair on their tails & I can’t see any on the one in the pic. My vote would be a muskrat. Muskrats are smaller that nutria. I’ve eaten muskrat & it’s quite good. My coonie cousins also enjoy the occasional coypu.
