Gulf Shores AL.

I did some research this morning on what Sally has done to Gulf Shores, AL. We wintered down there for three years, 2014 - 2016. Gulf Shores is a beautiful city, but it does have the nickname as the Hurricane city. It has been hit nine times in the last 90 years by major hurricanes. Gulf Shores had the second-longest fishing pier in the Gulf, 1540' The pier is built to withstand hurricane type weather, I think it was Ivan, who was the culprit that took out the original pier, and then they built the present pier and Micheal damaged it in 2018 and now Sally. As to what I saw, posted on the Gulf Shores Fishing Forum, a very good forum BTW, the entire midsection was destroyed now. This pier was 28' off of the water during normal conditions. It had a fish cleaning station and a shelter. It was designed so the boards would come loose during a surge and the support structure would remain. Evidently, that didn't happen in the middle section.

We have some members in that area I'm sure. I know of one, a new member that has just moved to Folly and joined just this past month. Folly is just up the road from Gulf Shores. They may not have any power or time to do any posting. I would doubt it.

Prayers are on the way to you fine people.

Fly not trying to be a spelling nazi but it's Foley Al., we used to take a trip to Gulf Shores every October for the Shrimp fest. It's been canceled this year because of COVID.

Watching the local news this morning said they had all ready had 24" of rain in the last 24 hours and Sally is creating at 3 MPH so there's a lot more to come. We have a friend who owns a condo on the beach and after Michael it took them months to get things cleaned up in her building alone.

Hate to hear about the pear it's a very nice big pear. no telling how long it'll take to get it back together, I've fished off it several times. While I was watching I was thinking of the new member said he'd just moved there, all prayers to all the people affected.

Hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, extreme high winds, flooding anyone think Mother Nature is trying to tell us something?

Thank you Ivey, I didn't think it looked right, but then and again, it was early in the day, and I hadn't been down there for 4 years. As long as we are on the correct spelling of words, it's "pier" not "pear". Just saying.

When we were down there in 2015 a tornado went through and produced three water spouts in the Little Lagoon. Our condo, the Sanabel, overlooked the Gulf on the East Side and the Little Lagoon on the West Side. A very nice condo that had a 28' balcony that overlooked the Gulf. We were on the 16th floor.

OPPs, sorry I really didn't mean anything by my post. I must be thinking of the pear preserves the wife is putting up right now. Setting here smelling them, while on a diet, is getting the best of me.

Did you ever catch the Shrimp Fest while you there, we really enjoyed going that time of year.
