Over the last few years shrimp have made it up to Virginia in decent numbers. I’d love to see if I can catch some with my cast net. Does anyone have a recipe for shrimp bait they can share?

Can of cat food in a pair of pantyhose. Small bits of food will go into water and shrimp be all over it

Similar to the other guy, get a good ol egg net, mix up some pack bait (check what you can use) like wet dog food, with dry dog food, or even if you want, cut some holes in a wet dog food can, tie some rope to it, and toss it out there

I hadn'rt thought of the idea for yearss, but the dog food can, with some holes in it also works for Red Fish. If you have reds in your area, drop a can that been punctured, leave and come back in 30 minutes to an hour and fish in and around this submerged can. It will have drawn a crowd. Just Sayin....RJS

Hokay RJ...I tie a Carolina rig with the barrel weight inside an old film canister with holes & some cat food or dog food in it followed by the hook with bait. Works grreat with a pinfish as bait.
One of our daughters caught a good size red on a piece of steak. I wonder if that's consider surf & turf??? Had to laugh couldn't believe it thought she was just hung up on something...I put the piece of meat on it to stop her from talking/whining...boy did I feel like a chump...

Where in Va. are you? I'm in Chesapeake just outside of Norfolk and Va. Beach. A really good place to catch shrimp is under the bridge that leads to Bay Island. Take a light to hang over the water at night and do as everyone else has said as far as chumming. A long handled net or a throw net will help. Mike
