How do y’all feel about fishing private golf course ponds?

I’ve called a few golf clubs to see if I can fish in their ponds. I know they are probably loaded! Was always told “no”.

I’m personally uncomfortable anywhere I’m half fishing, half wondering if there’s about to be an awkward encounter. I’ve got to be enjoying the 99% of the time I’m not actively catching something to keep fishing regularly.
That being said, I’ve got some friends that have been regularly fishing the same easy access course ponds near me for soooo long without issue (maybe once twice a year for 15yrs). I’ve tagged along and caught a current standing pb at one while we were just killing a couple min while the wives chatted.
TLDR: Not always morally opposed per se, just kills the vibe for me negating the overall experience so I avoid.

An awkward encounter, like a golf ball upside the head...

Personally speaking, over a holiday. I wouldn’t be out in a water hazard during play. I’ve got some dignity lol

Just like neighborhood ponds there’s nothing at all that attracts me to them. If I lived right next to one I would fish it but some people seek them out, assuming because they can have big fish that are relatively easy to catch.
If I see a guy catch a 5lb bass in river or public lake I’m often very impressed with the angling, but from a private pond or golf course or neighborhood I’m more impressed by the apparent health of the water like “oh cool there’s nice fish in there”
Of course, no one fishes those ponds to impress me so I don’t hate on it at all, but it ain’t my thing

I will fish some of the waters on my country club's course, but I've been a paying member for decades and only fish when the course is closed or late in the evening when there aren't any golfers left on the course. If you are gonna try it, biggest thing is to make damn sure you aren't impacting anyone's game of golf, because they are probably paying a lot of money to be there. You'll probably be left alone as long as no golfers are being distracted by you, but if you are out there making casts right in front of the green on the par 3 8th hole, you are gonna get your ass kicked out pretty quickly.

Yea that’s the main rule I make sure I abide is that I don’t ruin the game for the people playing

While at a meeting at the Doral CC, Miami, my room mate and i get up aroung 5:00, AM and before any golfers and fish some of the water hazards, and we were able to catch fish at every one.Nothing gigantic, I suppose 2 to 3 lbs. size. Lot of fun, and lots of fish. I doubt you could do that if either a member or guest. Just Sayin....RJS

Most country clubs are closed on Mondays. If you ask, they will say no, but access is typically easy and nobody there. Check first to make sure they don't have a charity golf tournament . . but the fishing is usually great. well maintained shore line, easy access, etc.
Good Idea. Also around dark. Just Sayin...RJS
I've fished golf course ponds down here in Calabash NC. Just watch out for gators. Nice bass in just about all the ponds.

Also ponds in corporate office parks. Same strategy: fish before office hours, evenings, holidays. The “ No Fishing” signs proved a convenient place to put your spare rods.
Used to sneak in all the time when I was a kid. Has a ball and caught some dandies
Ranger ran us off all the time
I ain’t as quick as I once was . I’d probably have to ask permission nowadays
