Going to spend a few days at this lake and wondered if anyone has any advice or suggestions for fishing there?
Thanks!

I fish there several times a year. In the spring the stripers move into the shallower water chasing the alewives. Summertime is difficult but there are the bass boat fishermen that troll past the piers after dark casting for largemouth. Fall is similar but around 5pm the stripers will turn on in open water under the alewive schools. This time of year I would fish near deep water and keep an eye out for breaking stripers.

Smith mountain lake has it all. Riffs rapsn stump fileds, grass bed, tree fall overs. You get the picture. The fish hit a lot of different lures but my favorite w. Poppres, chatter baits, swim jigs and of course plastics and wacky worm set up's. Hope this helps.

Hi Pam, I went there the year it opened back in the 60's so I really can't help but to tell you it was beautiful then and I imagine it's even better now. Google it, there's a lot of info about it on line. Tight lines. Mike
