Never done it to a reel but you can probably take it apart or tape it off, sand it and spray paint it.

Matching color fine tip paint marker, or Duplicolor auto touch up. Honestly, why touch it up? Every scar and scratch is proof it's a good reel and it is serving you well. If a reel is collectible most buyers will not want it refinished.
I had this discussion with my brother about the rubrail on my boat. Shark fishing with wire leaders cut the shit out of the starboard side rub rail (like 100 slices). Then a fellow fisherman pointed out that each cut was a successful catch (and release) and I was changed forever.
You have to decide if your reel is a tool or a toy.

Why? Its a tool and its impossible not to scratch it.

cammo it. add more scratches until you can no longer see the original ones.
I leave mine scratched....shows many years of use and fun filled memories.
