I’ve heard that if a fish can see your line it’ll decrease the amount of hookups you get. Is that really true based on your experience ?

Based on my experience no it doesn't make a difference. But then again I'm not a professional or anything so I dont know about people who do it more often.

Yes. It depends on a few factors, but fish can definitely be line-shy in my experience.

The only time I have seen it really make a difference is tuna.
Switching from 80lb flouro to 60 or 50 when the bite is slow seems to work quite often.

Some species are more line-shy than others but most of the water I fish in is so dirty I never really worry about it.

It depends on the species and water conditions, but it's certainly true for trout in clear waters.

Fish are generally going to be spooked by anything out of the ordinary. If they come over to check something "new" and they see anything (you standing there, your line, your pole, etc) they aint gonna bite.

It helps when you target fish that tend to taste with their eyes, not their mouth.

depends on water clarity , clear water they get more shy.
I use BLACK 12 lb, mono and haven't noticed any difference over fluorocarbon ( have been told fish don't see the color black, seems to work for me).
