Whats the big difference between lead weights and tungsten, is there really that much of a difference in sensitivity and is it worth all the extra money to get them.

size, tungsten is smaller and feel, you can count the rocks with tungsten even the little ones.
chillsfreomhell: Well, Dude, I wasn't aware of any difference, but will defer to Ivey. Just Sayin...RJS

Some states don't allow lead anymore

The main difference is lead is toxic to some wildlife and to humans. This is the reason why it's being replaced by other less harmful metals such as tungsten and steel.

Tungsten is much denser so would be a smaller mass for same weight.

Sorry, lead is 13% more dense then tungsten. I taught chemistry for 7 yrs. The toxicity is the reason it is being banned.
Kingfishertoo: I thought the banning had to do with shot from shotguns. Do some states ban all lead? During white wing dove season in the Rio Grande Valley, for the two sweekends there are probably 100,000 rounds fired into the air and the shot falling all over. I've even been hit by falling bird shot. I do not know if Texas has changed their rule about type of shot. Have some states also banned sinkers made from lead? Just Sayin...RJS

This is where my statement came from. I switched away from lead shot years ago and switched to steel then to bismuth and past few years to tungsten because the shot makers claimed it was heavier than lead. I now shoot #7 and # 9 tungsten and ‘kill’ birds much further.

If you get back into it you might consider these - we use these almost exclusively now - almost never get a crippled bird.
