I don't know where you fish but here in south Louisiana if we took the time to poison, club, bleed or inject morphine we wouldn't have time to catch fish. On a great fishing trip with 3 fisherman in a boat we have the potential of catching 75 speckle trout, 15 redfish, 15 black drum and 30 flounders. Also sheepshead and croakers. So just throw the fish in the ice box and keep fishing. This isn't to say we have trips like this every day but big catches here are a way of life.

Trophy fishing means you are going to put it on the wall right? You realize it is just painted styrofoam and will cost you $200 and you have to dust it the rest of your life. Take photos on your phone and you take them everywhere...don't have to clean your house and watch them eat all your food and drink all your beer!

Priest or pith? I worked in research and the most humane way to kill a fish was to club it. We had that in formal research protocols.

A hatched or scissors behind the head that cuts the dorsal cord is what I do with crappie. With trout I just reach in the gills and snap the head back. With the invasive silver carp this will break the head right off a 20 pound fish. Don't do this in a carpeted boat however or it will stink for weeks.

do you guys kill your minnows and shrimp too......and what about the worms, a dang hook slammed through their guts and head. Ya'll are so cruel. Look folks, a big, strong fish might need a smack with the bat to keep order in the boat, other than that throw the dang fish on the ice and keep fishing or cut bait. Or do you not cut bait fish up either......Not trying to be ugly but if anyone try's bringing up these topics on my boat, I might start shark fishing really quick. You will not ever get back on my boat again either. Do you also sneak up on your deer to inject them with a feel good before you blow an .o6 round through them too. This is a pretty lame, bleeding heart topic. Maybe better if you buy your fish at the market and save yourself the pain!

Face it. You are becoming ugly. But then...you have always been ugly.

LOL! Ya'll getting worked up on what? How to fish? Like another poster from Louisianna just said, throw them in the box and keep fishing. I simply never heard of anyone taking a view of not hurting a fish you caught with a minnow with a hook through his head, eyes, or back. Thats just a bit outside of normal in my opinion, and having fished for over 50 years inshore, offshore, on the bank, and every where in between, and with hundreds of other fishermen I simply never have ever met anyone who thinks about this. Do I respect the Law and fish and hunt accordingly, you dang right I do......always. Do I respect my fish and game, yes I do. Do I kill them yes I do, and I eat what I kill. Best thing for all of us to do, is do it the way "you" want, I'm going to do it the way I always have, and I wish you all good luck in your fishing!

And yes I even release them sometimes too......unharmed at that. Caught nine nice little trout this morning, most just under size, and a couple just over........let 'em grow. They'll be there next time too!

Love the sound of a wrench hitting a $50,000 fiberglass bass boat.
