I'm going to the upper part of Trinity lake this weekend. I would like to know what to use to catch fish from the shore by the KOA campground up there.

What kind of fish? Bass, trout, catfish? Are you related to Marvelous Marv? Or was that Thronebury? Welcome to the stage K. We would love to see some photos from your upcoming adventure. Please post some.

will do and I don't care what kind of fish....I just want to rip some lips! I'm not bringing my boat because I'm towing my travel trailer, so shore fishing is what I'll do, just want to know what bait is working out there.

I don't know a thing about shore fishing for bass. But trout? Right up my alley. This time of year your best bet is to be out there before the sun hits the water - they come in to feed in the morning and evening, or you can fish at night. During the day they're going to be deep and you really need a boat. I've always had good luck with a Super Duper for an early morning lure. Or fish under a bobber with a night crawler or red worm. You could also try a casting bubble with some water in it and drag a woolybugger (black or olive) behind it. Give the power bait a try too. As Saw suggested get hold of Mitchfish, he's familiar with that lake and can probably steer you better than I can.

Used to fish that area may years ago for alligator gar/catfish. Would get a swamp hare, use his guts to fish with. Would hook the carcass over a camp fire to cook to devour. Stay the ight. There are slot limits to the gars. Permit is required to keep a large gar. You might should check the fish guide. Good Luck Have a great time.

If you catch a alligator gar out of Trinity Lake you will be in all the papers and no matter what size it is it will be the state record. And you should for sure report it to the CA DFW because they are gonna wanna drain that lake and poison everything in it. Probably don't need a permit, they'd probably look at you a little funny if you went and tried to get one. You will need a permit for that fire though.

Eddie, was this back in the sixties?
