Night Fishing Sac Deepwater Channel

Thought I would try the Deepwater channels last night, new spot for me. Fished 5-11, caught 8 Striper, 3 catfish but no keepers. The cats were just too small in my opinion. I only like to keep em if they are bigger.

I have never seen so much action in the water. Fish jumping everywhere, all night. I think this spot will produce good fish next Spring.

Sounds good. It was fun if not for the damn ashes everywhere. I like night fishing, it's peaceful and I find it therapeutic. Come on down!

What were you using for bait? And what size hook? My ol buddy Bill and I used to fish on the Feather River at night and the shakers used to keep us busy all night rebaiting our hooks, but I hardly ever actually hooked one, I figured it was because of the size hook I was using. Same with the smaller catfish.

What type of wood do you think the ashes were from?

Most of the TREES are either a type of Pine OR Oak. Not to mention all the underbrush and grass.

Not sure, hopefully not the ashes of people's homes. Air quality advisory today in effect. Glad to be getting out of town next weekend, hopefully the fires don't mess my plans up for the Yuba River.

I'm using a 5/0 in-line circle, red from Gamakatsu and sardines as bait, always. I also have some Daiichi Red 5/0 offset circles.

Gills; Give it a few weeks and the stripers should be making their fall run. Then there will be lots of larger ones heading up river. I used to night fish near Rio Vista every September and usually did well. Good luck

That should do it. I'm surprised you're hooking those shakers with that. Good job though.

Thanks! I started using bigger hooks because I had hoped to catch less shakers, didn't work.

I might opt for a 7/0 next 😁
