Well, you are lucky, and fortunate that he missed you. I would suggest that in the position you were in, that while you have every right to be there, you might choose to get closer to the notch of that Y. At least it looked like a Y, so that when a speeding boat comes through, and doesn't see you at first, there would be room for them to pass. There was room but not as much and you could have been run over. Just sayin...RJS

This type thing happens all the time, it doesn't seem to matter how far back into a cove or small river you go here comes the pleasure boaters. Normally around the lake I live they are skiers behind a wake boat pushing out a 3 to 4 foot wake. They have no consideration for others on the water. There has been 2 teenagers killed on Tim's Ford this year because of just such carelessness, 2 killed last year one on a jet ski one skiing into a dock. Such a shame when just a little thought can stop it.

Perhaps, if he been paying attention and jerked back on the throttle, he would not have been in such a pickle in the first place. It is hard to tell, but if he'd been watching, it appears that there was enough time to cut back on his speed much sooner. I believe it is the responsibility of the driver who in underway to slow down, pay close attention in tight places and be prepared to stop. This could have been a swimmer in the water. Just Sayin...RJS

Would love to have heard the conversation between the driver/
boat owner and the cop/game warden who investigated the incident ! Also wondering how
he managed to retrieve his boat from the shrubbery and how
much THAT cost him ! Then there's the probable charges
(reckless operation of a boat ?) and fines, plus court costs ! And THAT, my friends, is the price of idiocy !

Exactly Ivee. For sure. Many people just do not use caution in boats. Some have boated a longtime and never were cautious. I am a bit overly cautious. My buddies even say I drive like an old lady ( on road ). I boat usually more cautiously. There is no reason to be 1/2 or full throttle in a channel barely wider than your beam. Goofballs. I have watched someone go overboard from a wave coming in the jaws from a river bar on a bay. Its no fun. We kept looking at him and wondering why he was looking down in boat ( baiting rod or something for salmon ). All he needed to do was get on other side of the channel ( like the rest of us boats) where there is no breakers coming in off the Ocean. Sure enough before you know it it turned his boat almost upside down but boat stayed glued to the water and other passenger held on to something in his boat so stayed on boat. Then boat was going in large circles and the person onboard didn't grab the helm. Boat next to us rescued the swimmer and another picked up some things that were floating that came out of boat. Finally someone went over in the waves and started yelling at the person onboard on how to steer away from the north jetty. Crazy crazy crazy..

People on boats need to pay attention and speed is not your friend unless it is referring to reacting to situations on the water.

I'm sure there's plenty more and it's not always high powered boats. I was fishing a tournament one night on Pickwick lake and 5 grown up and 1 two year baby called into a small 10' flat bottom boat with a 5 HP motor. I told the guy in the boat with me it wasn't going to end well. They were going camping on an island in the middle of the lake. they got maybe half way across and sunk that little boat and all aboard went swimming. We heard the commotion and went out and pulled them all into my boat. Those guys wanted to pick all their stuff up, I told them now my boat is overloaded and took them to the bank. We messed with them for over an hour finally got their boat pulled in, motor, trolling motor, all their camping gear in still on the bottom. They had taken the battery out of their car to run the trolling motor, lost it too. Guess they got home but when them and their stuff was safe on the bank we cut out. The two year old never made a sound, he was the first one I grabbed he set between us till we got them back to the bank, he was the only one in that little overloaded boat with a lifejacket. While we were pulling away I heard one of the women giving one of the men down the road "I told you we should have taken two trips." She was right

first place ? Back around '79/'80,
I had a little ten-foot jonboat; it was marked right on the stern -
300/350 lb. capacity ! My buddy and I each weighed between
175 to 195 lbs., so we slightly exceeded the limit; with both of
us in it, the water was less than four inches below the
gunwales ! If either of us moved
too much trying to fish or get comfortable, we took on water !
I'm surprised they didn't sink right at the dock while loading up !
