Colored line?

When I was a kid many years ago, we fished with baitcasting reels. They had braided nylon line that was colored. Every so far, it would change colors. It was not an abrupt color change, but a smooth transition from color to color. It was good line to unsnarl backlashes too, because it was pretty good sized test weight.

Does that kind of line still exist today? If it does, where would one find it?

Yeah it's still around but I cant tell you where to get it. I had some 80lb braid that was multi colored for a while. Cool looking stuff.

While we are on the subject of colored line, does it matter? What is the best color. Bitting my lip now.

Jwid: Don't worry about the best color, with my luck, it would always be the wrong color anyway. Maybe they would be arguing about which they liked best and go ahead and bite the lure in anger. Just Sayin...RJS

Good point. I have read that fish don’t see color the way we do anyway. Red is supposed to look gray. Not sure what color really pops. So maybe that’s why black is a go to.

Jwid: Also remember a lot of lake water has roots, twigs, limbs, and other stuff floating around to help hide or camaflouge your line. I suspect that if the fish is interested, or hungry enough to be attracted to your bait or lure, they are not going to be paying that much attenton to to the line. Just Sayin...RJS

Shark River Mail Order. I'd like to take credit, but it was an earlier post and a great suggestion. I bought the Quattro mono low-vis4-color camo. There is a very subtle color change every foot which acts as camo. With a lot of study and practice it could also act as an indicator as to how much line you have out. The web site is: srmo.com Great prices, selection, C/S, (they beat Amazon!) The reviews on this Quattro mono line are extremely positive. We'll see!

I usually buy clear or a olive drab line. I have high visibility yellow braid on one spinning reel. It catches fish also. Clear leader when still fishing. Tie it directly to a spinner or crank bait.

multi colored line is for some a poor mans downrigger or distance marker. Usually configured to 10 feet per change, you can tell how much line is out if you remember how many times the color changed as youre letting it out.Ive seen it on the shelves at wal mart recently. Hope that helps.
