Has anyone used a buck tail lure to troll for fresh water striped bass? We’re you successful?

I've never used them Trolling but I've sure caught a bunch casting for them. Mornings and evenings they start coming to the top feeding on shad minnows and a white ducktail jig cast around the area will pick up a good number of fish. I can see no reason why they would't hit them trolled.

We usually don't troll with them , but we do pull up to a spot, usually some kind of inlet, and cast them and catchem that way.
We prefer to troll 1oz. rattle traps or big fast track Rebel lures. They don't make those Rebels any more. You have to get them off ebay or someplace.

Let me know if you try either of those. I'd be interested to know if they work where you are.
We troll pretty fast with them. 5 mph with 180 feet of line out. That's if the water's deep enough.
To run shallower we only put out bout 100 feet of line.

Trolling Bucktails and parachute lures work very well in the river systems of Maryland waters both on the eastern and western shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Most of the local reservoirs do not allow gasoline motors that are used for trolling but if you have enough battery power available I assume that electric motors would work well. Striped bass will strike any kind of artificial lure!

They've got freshwater stripers. Lots of lakes have them. And they have the hybrid "Wipers" as well.

No problem brother. I just wish I lived close to one of those lakes.
We fish for them in the Petaluma and Napa Rivers but they come up there from the Bay.
