Ed here. I fish For large mouth bass at Lake Silverwood in San Bernardino Mountains. I usually do pretty well, even in the sumner. However, they blue stoned the lake to kill the algae bloom a few weeks ago. Also killed the fishing. Would be interested in others opinion or experiences with blue stoning.

I fished Lake Casitas near Ventura, California from 1986-1995. Beautiful clear water lake. Huge bass - lake record 21 lb 3 oz. They would blue stone the lake in late spring and summer to kill the algae. I have seen large barges spewing blue spray into the water. Killed the bite for some time. Have others experienced this. Would like to hear from some of you!

I read up on Blue Stone last night. Its Copper Sulfate. Its poison for Algae. When the Algae decomposes it can burn up all the dissolved Oxygen therefore killing fish. It can also pretty much sterilize the waterbody and make bacteria impossible to ever return. Hopefully they didn't use too much. Algae is bad news too. it makes water unfit for Human consumption and will kill your dog if they swallow any.

I use it in my pool. Never heard it called that. Says right on the bottle it will harm fish. Copper Sulfate. Dr. Pol puts that on horse's hooves when he's tryin to get an abscess to heal up.

Thanks for the research on Blue Stone. Evidently the State Water People know how much Blue Stone to apply so-as to kill the algae but not the fish. Managing out water is not an easy assignment. Lets put this subject to bed!

They used it at Lake Skinner about three weeks ago. In 4 trips since, I have caught one fish (3.23 Lb) that was decent. Not sure if it was the Blue Stone or the latest heat wave. Something to think about .

We used blue stone for hoof rot in sheep and they had to walk through a trough to get to feed and water. It sure worked good. I also spray my olives with the same material copper sulfate as a dormant spray and to lower the temperature they will take for frosts without killing the trees.
