I have a 10 yr old Autistic grandson. We live is Shasta Co CA. So far we have been catching trout in Hat Creek. He really wants to catch a bass. Since we don't have a boat can I get help finding places to shore fish please.

Welcome aboard there NorCal. Lots of great folks from Cal - sure they will have some suggestions for you.
Go get them, grandad! You are doing a service that will be remembered a lifetime, so don't worry about the time spent. The more you and grandson spend with your lines in the water, the greater your chances of catching a P.B. whether you hang it on the wall is your choice. Just Sayin...RJS
There's at least one guy on here who fishes Shasta Lake for bass. I know that trout fishing is legendary in regard to the Sacramento up by Redding, don't know if it holds bass, but I don't see why it wouldn't. I'd be for googling "bass in the upper sac" and such. I don't know much about fishing for bass from shore, but I'm sure it's possible. Hopefully some of those from up that way will help you out.
Thank you for the good words. It is a blessing to be able to spend time.
I used to fish the Pit River Arm of Shasta when in college. I had no boat at the time. I used minnows fished near the bottom (minnows were cheaper in Redding than at the lake) from the bank. Don't be surprised if you also get cats and trout along with bass. I also used a sliding bullet weight Texas rig purple floating worms. Just cast out. Let it sink. Then bump it along the bottom as slow as you can then fish it twice as slow. Continue to move along the bank. You should not have much problem with snags as you will be fishing the same material you are walking on. Last two hours of light are always the best. If I were to do it now,I would try unweighted 5"wacky rig in green pumpkin as well. Good luck P.S. I never hooked a bass near the dam.
Thank you. I will search for a place for him to get to.

Hey NCRF. Welcome to the stage. You need to PM Mitchfish and ask his advice. He fishes there a lot. He fishes out of a boat but should be able to help you out. Good luck and tight lines. Post pics.

Try S. Bonnyview Rd, on the west side of the Sac. There is a small boat launch area in the trees on the south side of Bonnyview. There are locals that launch & other fishermen that just hang around there to chat.
I hope that your grandson can catch something big, he won’t care what species it is if it is big.

Where along the Sac are you talkin about? It's a long river and I couldn't find it from Cottonwood to Shasta.

Hey NorCal, Oak Bottom Marina On Whiskeytown Lake has a handicap access fishing dock. If you haven’t been there before it’s around past the RV parking area. And also the shoreline in that area. It’s on the Bass fishing end of the lake. There are also bluegill and probably Crappie. Good luck and tight lines!
