I heard today that the company has now ceased building the line of outboards. Failure to keep in touch with new products, like the four stroke, is partly the reason. Something like 387 people lost their jobs. The outboards were not made here in the US, and has been that way for many yrs, but tried keeping that a secret. In fact it was built in 5 different countries. The fuel tank is easy, 'made in Canada' is printed on the tank. I can't remember where all the parts were made. Some in Belgium, Japan, ……? They didn't fold, the main company, BRM, just quit making them.

Hopefully its not like the current situation at the post office or like companies that rip off their vendors then file bankruptcy then just change name to avoid paying their debts.

I understand, that happens a lot. This is different, the company, just stopped making them, losing money. They still open for business, BRM makes a lot of different things.

Total shame but the world revolves and some things just don’t make it.

Last I heard Harris, sales of 2 strokes were way down. The virus shutdown was the final nail in the coffin,or a good excuse. They contracted with Mercury to power all the boat brands that they own. They said they were going to concentrate on the "Next Generation of Marine Propulsion ". I take that to mean larger Electric motors. There are already companies making motors up to 5-10 hp, but nothing bigger as far as I know. That's the last I heard, maybe 2 months ago.

The wave of the future in autos, semi’s, pickups, buses, aircraft, ships is now heading rapidly toward electric. Some of the best are using hydrogen to run the electric motors. I see our boats heading that way also.

What are you suggesting? A very large AlkaSelzer tablet to run outboards? Wow! What a relief that will be. Just Sayin...RJS

A very small one and a little bigger like a gallon size electrolyzer can power your house - what is water - 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen. The green of the very near future. And world wide.

Once they perfect the means of storage and protection of the hydrogen cells, it’s game on. Unless the big oil lobby stops it.

It is already a go! EU now has about 120 buses using Hydrogen fueled electric buses. China has hydrogen fuel cell trucks that now have over 1 million miles over the road. Europe is running semi’s on hydrogen and the US has several companies hot in the running for the EV market. California has made it mandatory for “Green” by 2045. Percentage goes up every 5 years or so.
The biggest push now is because of the reduced pollution levels seen world wide as a result of Covid. Now the world wants the reduced pollution. “Workhorse“ is bidding on 180,000 new delivery vans for the USPS to replace their fleet in the next 7 years. It goes on and on.

Is that the reason for the crash of OMC, or just that they aren't selling enough engines? Just Sayin...RJS

RJ, they claim low sales, made worse by the shutdown due to virus. In my opinion they should have spent their development money on 4stroke design, instead of trying to improve 2strokes. Many places ban sales of 2 stroke engines in anything, and it will be everywhere eventually.

Have they been able to place an additive in the liquid hydrogen cell to allow one to see it burn? If a leak were to happen and depending on the operational pressure, hydrogen can auto ignite via friction during the leak. When hydrogen burns you cant see it unless it’s at night. The heat wave generated is visible. My concern is with a wreck involving the vehicles. It’s essentially a bomb on wheels much more so than gasoline. I guess that’s why they make engineers.

Well maybe you might remember the guy in Florida, maybe not. He built a car using water...ONLY! Separate the two ingredients and you now have a hydro car. Burns clean and very little cost. Oil companies shut that down in a hurry, gave him millions to just go away. A couple of friends of mine have tried doing the same, but never did get it to work. It did get a gas burner to get better gas milage, but you lose your trunk, with the unit, and hoses.
