Finding Fish At The Lake Points.
Fishing can be one of the most tedious or exhilarating activities. If you don’t know what you are doing, don’t know where the fish are or are at the wrong place at the wrong time, it will be tedious and frustrating. If you have a little bit of experience and skill, can think like a fish and know the times when fish are most active, it could be one of the best things you do all month.
Experience comes from getting out on the water and trying. Timing depends on a lot of factors. Where the fish are, usually follows some predictable patterns. Skill level is up to you to develop. For timing, The My Fishing Forecast App can take A LOT of the guess work out of the equation, and it does all the math for you. So that leaves us with finding the fish. WHERE ARE THEY!? Let’s focus on lake fishing first.
If you were a fish in a lake where would you be? You’d try to be someplace safe if you are a bait fish. You’d probably try to find a good ambush spot if you are chunky bass or other predatory fish. Under or around docks, between fallen trees in the water, in shady patches are good places to start looking for game fish. This is particularly true in the warmer months when fish are more active.
Also consider the structure of the land. Lake points are excellent places to find schooling game fish looking for an easy meal (or at least your tasty plastic purple worm). See the photo above to get an idea of what a lake point looks like. The red arrows indicate a lake point. Usually they are where dry land juts out into the lake. When I’m lake fishing that is where I catch 75% of my fish.
Go for shady patches with plenty of cover or cast across the lake points. That’s a good place to start looking when you want to catch some fish.
