I’m planning on getting a new catfish rod or two and I was hoping I could get some recommendations. Most of what I target is large channel cats but I catch quite a few large lake sturgeon in the process. My favorite is my whisker seeker but I’m hoping to keep things at least a little cheaper. Thanks in advance!

whisker seeker is already on the cheap side. Anything under is not good quality.

What are the more expensive ones you have in mind?

My friends who fish catfish use daiwa proteus rods and offshore angler ocean masters. Both more than 150. If you wanted a high quality glass rod (which is the prefered material for catfish rods) you could get a super seeker 980. You should just stick with the whisker seekers. Good rods for a good price.

I'm going to hard disagree, for catfishing your just fishing cut bait on the bottom, most of the time with circle hooks. Just get a cheap 50 60 dollar surf combo and put some braid on there you'll be fine. No need to break the bank to fish cutbait.

I'll throw my hat into the ring search for fire stick on eBay 40 dollars with shipping. It has stainless guides 9 I think 7 ft 6 inch rod. 3/4 to 5 oz rating to throw some heavy leads it says med heavy but I would say heavy slow. I also have a Berkley big game rod 7 ft 6 in med heavy I got for 15 dollars from Wal-Mart that can cast my 4 oz leads or 1/2 oz and catch white perch with its fast light tip. My all around catfish rod is Berkley big game to see those light hits but my fire stick looks like a bass rod and can't help but use it.
7 ft ugly stick with garcia 6500 & 7000 reels inexpensive and hold up well. had cats rap rods around boat before I could get it out of rod holder, hadn't broke one yet (knock on wood) just saying
I like the white ugly stick catfish rods & ambassador 6500 reels with 40 lb Berkley big game mono line. Sometimes 50 lb. I want a little stretch in my line when I'm catfishing.
i like my b&m 8 foot silver cats
Sturdi Stiks, solid glass and almost indestructible, I keep 2 in the boat for backup when shark fishing.Very cheap too like 20-30 bucks !!!
