Well, Hoss: I've caught more bass with spinner baits, but the biggest one worms with a Texas rig. I understand frogs and jitter bugs work, but have never had much luck with them. I suspect it was because i wasn't at the right time of day. Good luck and post some pictures. Just Sayin...RJS

Welcome to the Forum, jazzy, you can catch either one with crawlers. For trout, throw the crawler upstream and let it drift down to you while keeping a tight line. For bass, put the crawler behiind a spinning rig.

According to your location "L", at one end of town you can pull to the side of the road and relieve yourself in the lake. Perhaps you could us some tips?

Bummer... You just missed the Hex Hatch in mid July. Tons of food sources for the fish there. I was there in early July fishing for trout. You gotta match the hatch and this time of year, as we all should know, the best time to fish for trout on a lake is starting when the sun is coming up and when the sun is going down. You can catch some during mid day, but you will have to fish deeper.
As far as Smallmouth bass - I know Almanor is a great fishery for them. Use your favroite technique and see what happens :-)

Most success for trout has been trolling speedy shiners at 40 feet deep. Not seeing many bass fishermen.

How long have you lived in Chester? Are you a year round resident or do you make like a tree and leaf when the snow starts falling? My Mom and Dad left us kids a place out on the peninsula. Can't wait to retire and move in there.

My Dad's Dad owned a 1 acre lake front lot on the West shore. It had a little two room cabin and my grandpa sold it for $35K in the late 70's. For some reason he never even told my Dad he was selling. When my Dad finally found out he was not a happy man! Anyway, I've always wanted to meet a local who could tell me all about fishing Almanor. Maybe the next time I go up there we could go fishing?
