Recreational Striped Bass Season Closure Reminder

The recreational striped bass season will be closed from August 16 - August 31, 2020.

During the closure period anglers will be prohibited from targeting striped bass, which includes catch-and-releas
My first thought was "What!" This is getting really stupid here in Maryland. I admit I have NOT been lucky enough to catch one that was legal size yet. When it was 18 inches all mine were 17. When they made it 19 inches I caught 18 inches. When they finally made it 20 inches, then I caught a 19 inch one. All were released unharmed, BTW. Now I have to tell them I am Cat fishing, I guess after this week.

audigger, my buddy Bill and I caught many a striper on the Feather River while fishing for catfish. They like the same baits.

I'll just tell them I am fishing for Bull Sharks in the Bay here. They have been below the Key Bridge before. The Key Bridge is part of I-695 going around Baltimore. And yes, it is a Toll Bridge.

Hey at least you have an end date. Stripers for us been illegal for going on 3 years.

They threw us a bone though. Flounder are legal 8/20 to 9/30. Whoppee , 45 days to get them before the commercial nets.

How do you harass a fish?
Stand on the shore and call it names?

Hi Larry M, Larry W here in San Diego area, I call them bad names all the time fishing in SD bay barbless. when I've got a hard fighter almost to the boat and before I can see it, it comes off and a few choice words come out. I don't keep anything just like to see what species it is before releasing it. LW.

Hi,
I use barbless hook also in the bay for surface fish. Too many short barracudas with fragile jaws out there.
I've been know to say a few words also.

What I really don't understand is the timing. What are they doing, giving the stripers a summer vacation. They breed in the spring, they migrate in the spring and fall. What line of reasoning, if any, are they following?

Stripers don’t do well when stressed with water temperatures above 80 degrees. The many dead fish floating in the current were also released “unharmed “

I have never hunted and shot, wounded or harassed any fish in my life. Sounds like an idiot trying to be funny.
