Does anyone know if the piers are open for fishing in San Clements
or Oceanside Ca.?

I read a report from the other site that I use that on Sunday he was fishing on the Oceanside pier and caught a bonito.

Bonita are usually caught on top water. They school and when you see them surfacing ( at sea ) usually someone on boat will yell Bonita and everyone gets excited

Yep, can catch a bunch of them in that area, and like Jeremy said mostly on a boat. Don't know anyone who eats them though. Fun to catch, if nothing else is biting.

We used to put them in the smoker, haven't done it for awhile. Pretty tasty snacks if smoked.

Bleed the fish immediately. Cut out the lateral blood ducts when you fillet. Result: excellent texture and flavor.

Yes, quick kill with the spike in the head. Cuts on each side of the tail then put them in a slurry of ice and saltwater in the ice chest.
