When I lived on Clear Lake (CA), I used it to find crappie schools. For finding fish, mainly useful for schooling fish. Otherwise, it helps in finding good structure. I didn't use it much for bass.
I use mine all the time and I fresh water fish my self. If you get a good one and get use to the setup and read the screen you want be fishing with out it once you get one
Ditto, I have 4 lowrances, one for each boat. Love them all. Mainly use for structure and logging waypoints. Love the newest Lowrance HDS LIVE active imaging with 3 in 1 transducer. GPS tracking, with downscan, sidescan LOVE IT!!!
I am mostly fishing fresh water striper from a kayak and I use the depth finder to find structure and depth. Smooth bottoms are usually a desert. I have seen bait schools and fish arcs on it. Turn off the fish ID. It lies. Get some duct seal from Lowes or Home Depot. Make a pad and use it to fit the transducer to the inside of the hull. Best thing I have found. You dont need an expensive finder. They need more power. I use a small lithium ion battery in a dry box. Kayak is heavy enough with all the gear on it. I also use a gps for speed control while trolling. Different lures like different speeds and you can troll for bass. I boated 6 small stripers yesterday.
Usually just for depth and structure

Hell of a tip. Any particular brand soap? Canโt use Ivory cause it floats. ๐

Bricks of brown soap are best. Put a weight in brick to sink it. Remember these will be some shiny clean fish and smell good too.
