Bass fishing: Best baitcast combo under $150?
Looking for my first baitcast combo. I've used my friend's baitcaster before so I know I want one. Budget isn't very flexible. Any help is appreciated
EDIT: Looking for a good all-around rod. Probably 7 ft MH fast tip and preferably a 7:1 gear ratio but gear ratio is flexible. I mostly fish swim jigs, texas rigs, and chatterbaits (among other things of course) but that's what I'd throw on this combo

If you want accurate advice, you have to narrow it down a little. What type of bass fishing do you want to use it for? You gonna crank bait or jerk baits or jig fish? They have different requirements in a rod.

That’s good info. Unfortunately I haven’t shopped or bought anything in the last ten years, so I’m not up on current brands and ratings. I always tried to buy name brand stuff, but even then some companies have outsourced to cheaper manufacturing. Also, if you go to real sporting goods store, the guys there are usually fisherman themselves and can steer you in the right direction.

Mach 2 by Lews is maybe $30 more than your budget allows. If you’re flexible at all, it’s great. I bought one at the beginning of the season and it’s been my go to all year

I'm only 15 so I'd rather put money towards, say, a car or college or something for my future rather than expensive fishing stuff but I appreciate the input!

Go with bass pro in store or online. (Build your own combo it's cheaper) You can get a baitcaster under $50 and a rod under $50. Medium or medium heavy fast action 7-7 1/2 ft. Your budget @ 150 you could go up in price on either choice. With that pole you can get by fishing most techniques except maybe extremely light tackle. Also check Amazon for Kastking products there budget friendly with good reviews.
Bass pro online free 2day shipping on orders over $50. They have a great return policy if gear breaks with free shipping returns. If you want to exchange due to not liking the product they will gladly accept your return but you have to cover shipping. Also Amazon go with prime shipping hassle free returns for any reason and fast shipping

I just ordered another bait caster today. What I got coming is not in your budget. But someone said to make up your own. Not sure if it is cheaper, but you get what you want, not what they push. Now the gear ratio that you want is not going to happen. I know of no one making that ratio. The good thing is you don't need anything that high. A 5:8 to 1 is fast enough, and some of the lures you mentioned like the chatterbait will run on top at that ratio. Texas rigs has the least amount needed, and crankbaits would lose fish at that speed. And the rod is usually a fast tip, and medium heavy, for general fishing, and stiffer, if fishing worms mostly. Good luck in your search.
Abu Garcia Pro Max 3 combo. 7ft mh rod, 8 bearing 7.1:1 reel, just under 100 bucks.
If you like head aches buy a bait caster.
If you can wait a bit, St. Croix usually has a very good sale around November - December, combos with Daiwa.
