I've seen them on the river banks, maybe 15ft some might have gone to 17 not sure. Largest I've caught was 12ft. Never thought about the weight of one of those.

I’ve eaten some good gator and some very very chewy gator. Got some in the freezer a friend sent me from Florida. Gotta get it eaten up one of these first days.

When I was working for the Florida Marine Patrol I was up the Tomoka River in Ormond Beach Florida, A gator came along my boat then swam off. He was as long as my boat which was 18ft.

Yup, but it would probably be so tough all you could do is chew it until there was no flavor left the spit it out.

Don't know the average weight,
but one shot in Texas not too
long ago was just over 14 ft.
and 800 lbs. ! I'm guessing that
a 1,300 lb. 'gator must be close
to 18 ft. ?

Hi, BF !
Not 100% sure, but I think the critter in that movie was actually
a crocodile, not a 'gator, and a saltwater croc at that ! Movie was scary, but the premise was unrealistic; no 'gator or croc could acclimate to the temperature in a Maine lake, as they can only survive in a relatively warm climate ! The furthest north you will find them in this country is North Carolina, although with
the supposed 'global warming', they may eventually make their way into some southern Virginia marshes !

Those critters in "Lake Placid" were crocodiles.
