Question about storing minnows
Nah, Hoss; don't take them in the house. Next thing you, or your family, will name them and they become pets. Once that happens you will not be able to take them fishing and stick a hook in them and sacrifice them to game fish. Its the same with farm animals, once they get a name, they become a pet and it is very hard then to eat little Billie! Just Sayin...RJS
You wanna know what to do ? Ok so down here you just put in egg wash then roll in flour and into the hot grease . When they floating they done . Crispy goodness yeah boy!
Salt your minnows. There are instructions on-line. They work very well for jigging or drifting.
I used an old aquarium and it worked just fine. About a ten gallon one
Yep. When we lived in the Rio Grande Valley, we had a Mexican maid. Once when we were gone, the aquarium's lite went out, so she replace it and cooked all the fish! Just Sayin...RJS
It's the water. Fresh water changes often because the ammonia kills the fish. On a cycled fish tank there is good bacteria to combat the ammonia. That takes time to develop. Bring some lake water and try?

My brother has a rain barrel and keeps minnows or other small fish in it to feed on mosquito wigglers.
Go to Goodwill and buy a 20 gal aquarium, I have kept minnow alive for 6 months, filter and bubbler

I had a fresh water aquarium when our youngest son was 9 or 10. My son found a fish that he wanted at the tropical fish store, I told him that he could have the plecostomus catfish when he could pronounce it.
He tried all day & evening until he could pronounce it properly, we bought one the next day.
Lesson learned about persistence he is now a project manager for hospital phone system installations.

Had a girlfriend who's father grew rabbits for food. He made the mistake of letting the grandkids name them. One sunday dinner he asked, guess who we're having for dinner? After the dust settled there were no more rabbits.
Remember fish like people have to urinate and deficate so the water needs to change at least every 8 hours or more often. Also the temp of the water can't get too high when we are out in the boat I bring a lot of ice
to cool things down. Finally they can't be over crowded too many in the bucket will bring about the death of a few. I have a large styrofoam cooler I made from a Omaha Steak cooler with 2 arators and lots of room for the minnows. That is usually good for me.
Got information on this website and it works pretty good
Put minnows in plastic put a lot of salt on them
I used sea salt because it was what I had another Used kosher salt
Put in freezer
Kept their color and were not mushy
I work at a bait shop and the key points are: keep changing water at least once a day. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT FROM THE FAUCET. Fill some milk jugs and let the water gas out the chlorine and settle the hard minerals for 24 hrs. Keep out of the sun because it will raise the temperature. Ideal temperature at the shop is 51 degrees and constant fresh filtered water mixing into the tanks. If you need to cool them down an old fridge or using ice packs. Ice cubes could have ammonia in them if not made with the water you have for changing. Feed them very little every 3 days. We do not feed ours. Feeding them creates ammonia waste and is deadly for them. Pull dead ones out. Keep your bubbler on all the time. Don't crowd them they need room to move around and not be stressed. Don't bother with a filtered system, like home aquarium type, they will not keep your water acceptable for the short time you have them. Once you do this a few times it's relatively simple. Good luck and Tight Lines.
All fish are edible . But if really want have fun hide the left over minnows under your car seat . That will wake him up
When they kick the bucket I salt them and freeze them up until the next time .Salting them keeps them firm and freezing them keeps them as fresh as possible and catfish don't care if their live or dead.
