I was noticing that the connection from 20lb braid to a 20lb fluoro leader creates some resistance when casting. Basically muffling my line presentation when casting into the wind. Has anyone ever experimented with using a tapered fly leader on the end of braided line. Would the spinning action make this pointless? What are your thoughts?

What knot are you using to connect the braid to the fluoro? Is the leader so long that it's going through the guides of the rod?

Using the Bimini twist or a similar knot. usually not through the guides when casting, but yeah, the leader is pretty long. Usually a 5-7’ flounder rig for drifting live baits.

I use a long monofilament leader on some surf spinning reels spooled with braid. I use an FG or GT knot to make the connection. Never really had any issue with casting distance; both of those zing through the guides very easily. Is a bimini twist really necessary for how you're fishing?

You don't need a bimini for bottom fishing.
Tie an FG or a red phillips right to the fluoro. You probably don't need that long of a leader, maybe 4ft at most.

What knot are you using? I’ve been using the Alberto knot and it’s very small.

Shorten that leader.
And you must be using a 12' rod to cast with 7' of line hanging out. This all sounds a lil bit extreme, so just shorten that leader for the simplest solution
