Hi everyone, I am new to this site, my name is Art. I grew up saltwater fishing in So CA and have been trying over the last 15 years or so at freshwater, spin and fly. Going to Silver Lake (Kit Carson Lodge) next week with my brother. We are far from good on the lakes and streams but keep trying! Anyone float tube and fly fish at Silver Lake? Any suggestions? Will rent a boat the first day, but we are taking our waders and float tubes as well for maybe the second day. Thanks in advance!

Hey AG. I've never fished Silver, but have fished Caples many times. I use to live in Tahoe.
This time of year you might find some very early, as in sunrise. The trout don't like it when the water warms up and the sun gets too high. Too many Osprey and Eagles to worry about.
Hopefully you'll be able to locate them and catch some before they go down deeper. Then it's usually bait fishin up off the bottom using night crawlers or power bait. Good luck.

I was there a couple of months ago. Lots of small stocked Brown Trout caught on flies. Also caught small Mackinaw, jigging spoons. They are deep now with the water warming up. Have fun, enjoy the views and stay safe!

Try trolling with your fly rod from your float tube. You'll be going about the perfect speed with just your flippers. Put on a beadhead woolybugger behind 10 feet or so of fluoro leader. Use a sinking fly line to get it down further, or tie on about 10 yards of 20 pound Maxima, Chameleon works real well. Don't forget your sun screen, best wear one of those UV shirts and a good fishin hat. Have fun and post some photos.

On Silver Lake, you can't miss if you go to the south side where the creek flows into the lake!!!!! Use Rainbow power bait on a two to three foot leader to swivel, then a bead, large slip sinker. I used 8lb test with 4lb leader. Fish right off the big flat rock. You'll catch your limit of nice Rainbows!!!!!! TIGHT LINES!!!!
