Planning on taking a trip to mammoth lakes in September and one of our lakes we are planning on fishing is saddlebags in Lee Vining Ca. Has anyone fished there within the last month and was the water taxi running? It says on their Facebook site it will be running till August . And how was the fishing? Large, small ? Anything?
Fishing is real slow all over the area. I was told that you need to go early, like 5:00am. Tight lines.
Hey Armando,
Saddlebag is one of my favorites up there.. I was there in mid June and the water was very low. I shore fished near the rocks on the right of where the parking lot is. Had some good luck on red/gold Thomas buoyant and salmon peach PB. Have to get out there early though, things slowed way down after noon. Water taxi is a good way to go too. The lakes on the back end have a good number of natural trout that are nice to hike to. All caught on artificials though.
Good luck and tight lines!
Just got back Sunday, water is as low as I’ve seen it, water taxi is running under new owners. Fishing is very slow, need to go deep with spinners.
Lots of little Brookie’s in the streams.
If your camping get there at 10am to find a spot, but it’s still the sierras and beautiful as always.
The lakes are not being planted this year. Fish in several hatcheries in that area have a disease and are contaminated. Fish and Wildlife will not allow planting. So, Saddlebag Lake fishing is apt to be very poor. Wish the news were better, because I also will be going to this area.
That's what we heard last weekend. Sad.
