What's the best way to hook a mouse tail lure for trout? Through the round "mouth" or through the body? What's the best way to fish them? Off the bottom? With a bobber? Reeling in? Jigging? Is there a color that works better?
We did good with them in February. White ball pink tail. #8 hook through the ball we just used a split shot
If you're just tossing em out a little ways then a split shot works just fine. If you want to cast it out a ways, do a Carolina rig and put on a 3/8 or so egg sinker. Floats up off the bottom. Just let it sit for a while, nothing happens, move it, repeat. Trout in a lake won't sit in one spot for long, they move around. And not in schools, but not alone either. You catch one, you're probably gonna catch more. Trout in streams will hold in deep pools and in behind banks and rocks, out of the current but accessible to it. So in a stream, let it drift in the current as naturally as possible. Where you fishing?

We occasionally troll with them for stocker trout. Orange head white body. Use a flasher with 14-16” of fluoro and a #10 or #12 hook. Troll at 2 -2.2 mph.

I goggled them and watched a video. Very interesting. However, I’ll stick to real worms for now.
