Ever been out with your fishing partner both using the same bait and even throwing to the same spot? Of course you have and if not, it will happen.
So there we are my buddy and i both throwing diesel Z
man opening nights and he has me 6 to 1. Both have the red headed Z man jig head both using the same scent squirted into the lure. Darn he is now 7 to 1.
Look a little more closely at his catch and his jig is a little smaller. Then he tells me he has the 1/8 oz on. So i switch from a 3/16oz to a 1/8oz and it was fish on.
Who would think that little bit would be a lot?
Ended the day strong and didn't catch him on the count but lesson learned.

Seen that with different lures. One size larger or one size smaller and game on. Go figure.

It’s a starting point. The rest is up to the fisherman.

Been there myself. When we fish areas without any reports we will all use different baits to cover more ground. If one starts catching then we will change over. It’s also important to try different retrieves speed wise and depth wise. But you already know that.

Thats half the fun and frustration of fishing - getting it figured out for that day cause tomorrow it will be different

Back in the 90s was fishing with a friend in north of Australia, I had bought several of the same color lure and was getting hit after hit, my buddy was changing different lures and had hardly any takes. After a couple of hours he was getting annoyed so asked if he wanted one of my spares. Said why didn't you give me one earlier. He didn't have any lure that resembled or had same color.
I've told this story before. I was casting metal for bluefish on Ocracoke and getting outcatched by the guy next to me by about 6 to one. Finally I gave up and asked what he was doing. He said " got anything pink. Got out a plastic and jig and proceeded to catch fish. Bought about a dozen crippled herring and stingsilvers and had a ball all week.
