So I recently moved to Mandeville LA. I used to do alot of bass fishing where I came from but I have no clue where to begin fishing for Reds or Specks. I was considering getting a kayak and hitting some marshes around here, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kayak is a good idea. Apart from the fact that so much of our marsh is “private” Louisiana is a kayaker’s paradise. I’ve found Yak-Tribe to be the best group for finding people to fish with in Louisiana, though there are quite a few LA members in the Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club as well.

There in Mandeville you’re right by Lake Pontchartrain but I’d suggest staying off of it for now, they’re opening the spill way and flooding it with fresh water. Not sure when or if they’ve already started.

Most people on the north shore prefer to do their saltwater fishing on the south shore. Hopedale, Delacroix, Venice, PAC, pretty much anywhere you see water on the side of the road south of New Orleans you can find redfish.

Bayou Cane is a beautiful spot. Sand launch instead of concrete so you shouldn’t have to worry about motor boats. You can occasionally find redfish there but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. There are some big ol gators over there, but they’ve never given me any problems. Just be aware that it’s possible you may meet an alligator as large as your kayak there.

That will work as well. You can even launch at the beach off of carr drive and paddle to hwy 11 or you can just launch off hwy 11 right before the bridge that has been closed for more than a year

The Sulfur Mines over in Galliano/Golden Meadow is a good place to catch those.
