The Colorado is well known for its striped bass fishing, and Willow Beach can be a top spot for these fish.

Furthermore, trout are also relatively common, and Willow Beachis consistently productive for largemouth bass. It is also possible to also catch smallmouth bass, catfish, walleye and crappie.

Fishing at Willow Beach on the Colorado River.

Willow Beach is a town on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, downstream from the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. The area around Willow Beach offers some of the top fishing on the river and is also known as one of the most scenic fishing spots in the country as the Colorado winds through mountains and steep canyon walls

Several Different Types of Fish Species;

The Colorado is well known for its striped bass fishing, and Willow Beach can be a top spot for these fish. Furthermore, trout are also relatively common, and Willow Beach is consistently productive for Largemouth bass. It is also possible to also catch smallmouth bass, catfish, walleye and crappie.

Common Tips and Tactics;

Striped bass feed primarily on shad, and it is possible to catch them on topwaters, crankbaits and other shad imitating lures. Remember that fishing near the surface in areas with both deep and shallow water nearby is a good tactic. Also, largemouth bass often fall for jigs, plastic worms and lizards fished close to cover or near the surface. Worms and small spinners take their fair share of trout, but fly-fishing is also a possibility.

Best Times of Year;

Late summer to early winter is prime time for stripers because these fish congregate near the surface to feed at this time. Late spring to early summer offers the best chance to catch big largemouth bass, but largemouths are available year round. Trout fishing peaks in spring and fall, and cat fishing is at its best in summer. Because of the wide variety times available to go fishing, it is important to make sure to bring the proper clothing attire.

Other Considerations;

Do not forget that fishing licenses are required to fish the Colorado River. It is possible to get a license through the Arizona Game and Fish Department website or at bait shops, sporting goods stores and County Clerk offices across the state. As long the fishing take place on a boat, it is possible to fish all along the Arizona and Colorado border with an Arizona fishing license. However, it is important to note that a Colorado fishing license is needed to fish from the bank on the Colorado side of the river. So if planning to fish the banks of the Colorado side of the river as well, make sure to get a fishing license from the equivalent locations in Colorado.

Fishing For GIANT Rainbow Trout at Willow Beach in the Winter | Catch and Cook Trout near Las Vegas.

Willow Beach stocks out 1000 Rainbow Trout every week from the hatchery where we were fishing near. We get excited when we know that the fish that they are putting in the river are monsters. These Rainbow trout were extremely picky. The super clear water did not help us out, and we could tell that even our mono was being spotted. After getting to our spot bright and early in the morning, we tried it all. Small spinners like the rooster-tail, flies for fly fishing, power-bait, and even lures. None of those were working, I believe because other fishermen were using these tactics. I knew we had to do something different, so I walked on over to the marina's store where I was hoping to find some salmon eggs to fish with. No luck with that, but instead I found live meal worms.

I settled with those and decided to walk back to our fishing spot and try those out. I knew I had to cover the hook, so the fish would not catch onto what we were doing. I used a minuscule hook that could fit on the nail of my Pinky Finger and had a bobber just above it. After the first cast, I saw my bobber go under. It was a 3 pound fish, at least. Until the line snapped, I was very excited. No worries, I thought to myself. I just re-casted. NEXT CAST the bobber went under again. I took my time reeling in the fish this time. It was a monster fish. This trout weighed over four pounds, and I have the pictures to prove it.

I now wanted my fishing buddy to catch one for himself and that is exactly what happened. Another monster rainbow trout was reeled in! We were very excited and now it was time for the cooking part. I took my fish home and shoved it into the oven with some onions. I nicely paired it with some microwave rice. ( Gourmet, right?) It tasted great though. Today's lesson of the day is to change up your bait if something is not working, don't settle. If I hadn't walked over to the store in search of something new, I have a feeling that we would have been skunked. This is what a nice fishing trip looks like and I hope y'all fish infinitely.

Fishing and Cooking GIANT Rainbow Trout at Willow Beach in a Intex Explorer K2 Kayak near Las Vegas!

Fishing and cooking giant rainbow trout at Willow Beach was so much fun. Being in intex explorer k2 kayak Made it even better.

My friend and I started off the day by inflating the kayak then setting sail. We crossed the river to our secret spot near the hatchery where we began to throw out a spinner for the trout. Within the fourth cast, we hooked on!

The trout was absolutely massive, probably around 4 pounds. I was so excited that I forgot to record on my own camera, so Becky had to pull out her phone and record on there.

As we saw the school of fish, we chased them until we hooked on again . I saw one feeding under a tree so I threw my spinner near it. Just like that I hooked onto my second fish and this one was even bigger. The second rainbow trout had a an even larger body which made it heavier.

I was so excited to cook it so we went home after catching the second fish. Of course I had to eat it so we filleted it then put it in the oven after frying it in a pan. The fish was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to go back out on my kayak.
