Hi,
I live on South Shore of Massachusetts and fish onshore for for schoolie Stripers in the North River,Back River, Fore River, Hingham Bay. Mainly use Clams but at this time of year [late July into August], as Bait fish leave....
....Clams as Bait stop working also. Any suggestions on Bait /Lures to use during this time period. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Google ‘Cinder Worms’. This may not answer your question but it’s some valuable information.

Trolling tube and worm go as slow as you can around 2-2.5 mph and hold on

Hey mcc, if you're fishing from shore, Bunker and Mackerel chunks as stated. Sandworms from shore will likely get eaten by something else. If the schoolies are decent size, smaller swimming plugs, wood like a Danny swimmer, or plastic like Rebels,Rapalas,or Bombers. Also soft baits like paddle tailed shad on a lead head. And never forget tins like Kastmasters, Hopkins, and Krocodiles. Good Luck!

On the Chesapeake, we use peeler crab or soft crab pieces. I like the suggestion of the kastmaster too. I love those and I have them in all sizes. They’ve worked well for me in the past and you don’t have to worry about bait. If they’re schooling off shore, they’ll hit almost anything shiny. Good luck.

Get yourself some Deadly Dicks lures in a couple sizes. If you are not fishing bait, that lure imitates almost anything stripers eat. An added plus is that you can throw that thing a mile!

I’ve never used squid for striper, but don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Everybody likes squid.

I use 4 or 6 inch Yozuri Chrystal minnows for schoolie fishing in the sedges.

Fish may be seeking cooler, deep water and be out of reach temporarily.
