It used to be so simple--once upon a time

Because the world was full of ignorance all around and the scientist panned through it like a prospector crouched over a mountain stream, looking for the gold of knowledge among the gravel of unreason, the sand of uncertainty and the little whiskery eight-legged swimming things of superstition.
Occasionally he would straighten up and say things like"Hurrah,I've discovered "Boyle's third Law",and everyone knew where they stood. But the trouble was that ignorance became more interesting, especially big fashionable ignorance about huge and important things like matter and creation, and people stopped patiently building their little houses of rational sticks in the chaos of the world, and started getting interested in the chaos itself--because it was easier to be an expert on chaos.

(from "Witches Abroad"-Terry Pratchett

You sure hit the nail on the head, I always thought the world would progress and get smarter with time. Boy was I wrong.

If you think you never make mistakes, you've already made one.

So, not to be outdone, the country decided that to promote ignorance, they would support only two political parties, which would then feed everyone extra fine misinformation, half-truths, and head fakes, along with the support and cooperation of newspapers, T.V. stations to keep the ball of pseudo news rolling.

Both parties, in order to stay in power, regularly staged fake debates, selected double speak, and often brain-dead candidates who were easily persuaded they were actually in charge. Each side would on optimum moments make wild and ridiculous claims that would be refuted and batted down by the other side, so it would continue to be a zero sum game.

Instead of The Emperor Had No Clothes, the Presidential candidate Had No Brains. Just Sayin...RJS

I've looked at the OPP site a few times myself. I know I don't need that type aggravation in my life.

I hung on for a long time, but in the end, I simply grew weary of the "aggravation".

Still, there are some really good people on OPP.

It seems to me that there are good, decent, sensible folks everywhere. The problem is that most of us are too good, decent, and sensible to attempt to buy the kind of coverage needed to promote good, decency, sensibility. Plus the fact that we are all to good, decent and sensible to have amassed the fortunes needed to do the same.

Likely, very true. However, I am blessed with the richness/wealth of a large Family.

AMEN Graywolf, I've traveled all over the world, been to many countries many believe are terrible. One thing I've found in common is there are more good than bad. The problem is the bad git all the attention. I've set across the table from many that I couldn't understand their words but their actions left me at ease. I've worked and laughed with people, some consider our enemies and one thing always rings true. In general working people are gonna work and try to provide for their families. Most could care less what's going on in countries on the other side of the world, my family has to eat. If we all could show more compassion, treat each other equally, mind your own business and keep your opinions to yourself, this world would be a much much better place to live
