Went on a party boat yesterday with my son and grandson. We were supposed to be going for stripers and bluefish, but on the way out captain announced we would first bottom fish because it was slack tide. Turned out to be a good decision. The 3 of us caught about 40 porgies, keeping 17 and releasing the rest. After about 2 hours of bottom fishing we moved and started jigging for bluefish and stripers. Nobody on the boat caught a bluefish or striper all day. We got 2 black sea bass and a few more were caught on the boat. On the way in we passed the US Coast Guard baroque Eagle, a 290 foot tall ship.It is permanently moored in New London, CT and is used by the Coast Guard Acsdemy as a training ship. We had a great day topped off by a fish fry made byme and grandma.
Sorry. Forgot to add pics, and we all love pictures. By the way. Thanks again for those who sent me some advice. Tried 3 places including Cabella but couldn't find bunker oil. Tried using capsules if fish oil, but the stripers and blues were nowhere to be found.
Still a great day on the water with my son and grandson

Sorry Yankeeblue, should have recommended a shoreline tackle shop for the bunker oil. Glad to see the bottom fishing worked out anyway. Looks like a great Porgy Fry! Nothing better than fishing with 3 generations!
Hi Gordon. The first pic with my kids I am holding 2 porgies, also called scup. The next pic I'm holding a black sea bass. It was a great day on the water
Hi Fred. I appreciate the help, but nothing was going to help. The fish weren't biting. Nobody on the boat caught. But yes it was a great day fishing with my boys, 3 generations. Doesn't get better than that.

I did see your post yesterday. That is a big scup. What we were catching were good size for our area, not close to what you were holding

Looks like that shark is going after your fish.
Looks like a nice day out there.

Great fish fry, thanks for the pics
Porgy is better eatin than blues any day of the week IMO. Blues are fun to catch, but when they're biting they'll wear you out. Thanks for the pictures, we do appreciate them.
I agree about the eating part. Just wanted grandson to fight a striper or bluefish. They caught a 47" striper on the same boat 3 days before, 30" to 50" " stripers are caught in this area. But we had a great day.

If you want to catch stripers travel another 1/2 hr up to snug harbor Ri and make arrangements with this charter boat Cherrypepper sport fishing itโs a little more expensive but worth every penny he is a fisherman not taking you for a boat ride i was his mate for 20 years. Check out the website and picture gallery
