Lake Piru, CA

After continuously having our trip postponed since Spring Break. Lake Piru finally opened the lake and camp grounds. Unfortunately, the day before we were scheduled to be there, we received an email stating the lake will be closed. They never opened the lake, so the boat stayed dry, but we hiked and did some bank fishing.

Wow FR66 what beautiful fish and pics. Thanks for sharing. Hope you are able to get back there another time and get out on the water. Good luck and tight lines.

Great looking place and fish. Thanks for the photos. Are there humongous bass in there like there are in Castaic?

Yes and they have big appetites. Unfortunately, the dam is due for maintenance and they are going to start draining the lake in a couple weeks.

Welcome to the Forum, FatRap, Thank you for sharing. Are they going to drain the entire Lake?

Thank you. It is going to be, as they said, a mud hole.

Very nice. I haven’t fished there in 30 years. Gonna have to go and give it a whirl.

Sometimes, when they do that they'll remove and relocate as many fish as they can. Since Castaic is so close by they may end up in there?

I'm hoping Lake Casitas will receive the majority of the water and fish. I don't know how the water is routed, but it is the last lake in the chain down here to get filled, and it needs it.

Yes we did. The campgrounds were all ours for 4 days, and the joy on my son's face, when he caught the 2 1/2 pounder made me forget about the boat.
